Getting Around Los Feliz

Quick Answer: Los Feliz has a Metro subway station at Vermont and Sunset, seven Metro bus lines that stop there, and a 50-cent DASH bus that runs from the station up Hillhurst to the Greek Theatre and Griffith Observatory. For driving, the Golden State Freeway (the 5) has a Los Feliz Boulevard exit on the neighborhood's east side. All of this comes from Metro, LADOT, Caltrans and the City of Los Angeles.

Vermont Ave and Sunset: the Metro station

  • Vermont/Sunset Station, Metro B Line. The B Line is the subway between Union Station and North Hollywood. Metro's station profile lists Vermont/Sunset as served by the B Line and local bus service. Heading west and north the line stops at Hollywood/Western, Hollywood/Vine and Hollywood/Highland before Universal/Studio City and North Hollywood. Fares. A regular Metro ride is $1.75. When you tap to ride, you never pay more than $5 in a day or $18 in seven days, and transfers are free within two hours. Hillhurst Ave: the DASH

  • DASH Observatory/Los Feliz (LADOT). The City's neighborhood bus. It starts at the Vermont/Sunset Metro station and runs along Hillhurst Avenue through Los Feliz Village. From there it stops at the Greek Theatre, at Mt. Hollywood Drive for the trails and in front of Griffith Observatory. Service is every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The park lists buses every 15 to 20 minutes and the Observatory lists 20 to 25 minutes at its stop. The fare is 50 cents, or 35 cents with a TAP card. Seniors and riders with disabilities pay 25 cents. Exact change is required. The bus runs even on days the Observatory building is closed, and it runs on Greek Theatre concert nights. ladotbus.com

LADOT's 2019 announcement of the combined route also describes a weekday morning loop through Los Feliz from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. before the full route begins. Check LADOT's current schedule before counting on the early loop.

Hollywood Blvd and Sunset: bus lines

These are the Metro lines whose timetables show a stop at or next to the Vermont/Sunset station. Route descriptions are Metro's own.

  • Line 2. Westwood to Exposition Park via Sunset Bl.
  • Line 180. Hollywood to Pasadena via Los Feliz Bl and Colorado Bl. The timetable's Los Feliz stop is Vermont and Prospect.
  • Line 182. East Hollywood to Rose Hill via Fletcher Dr and York Bl. Starts at Sunset and Vermont.
  • Line 204. Athens to Hollywood via Vermont Av. The north end is Vermont and Hollywood.
  • Line 206. Athens to Hollywood via Normandie Av. The north end is Hollywood and Vermont.
  • Line 217. La Cienega/Jefferson Station to Eagle Rock Plaza via Broadway, Los Feliz Bl, Hollywood Bl and Fairfax Av.
  • Line 754. Athens to Hollywood via Vermont Av. This is the faster Metro Rapid version of the Vermont route.

Other DASH routes nearby. LADOT's route list includes DASH Hollywood Clockwise, DASH Hollywood Counterclockwise and DASH Hollywood/Wilshire. Hollyhock House notes that the DASH Hollywood routes and the Observatory/Los Feliz route all stop at Vermont Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, at the foot of Barnsdall Art Park.

Los Feliz Blvd: freeways and the park entrance

  • The 5 (Golden State Freeway). Griffith Park lies just west of the 5, roughly between Los Feliz Boulevard on the south and the Ventura Freeway (SR 134) on the north. The park lists Los Feliz Boulevard, Griffith Park and Zoo Drive as the off-ramps that lead into the park from the 5. Griffith Park edge: bikes and walking

  • Riding a bike into the park. Cyclists use the paved park roads, not the trails or fire roads. East Observatory Road is one way downhill, so the ride up is West Observatory Road. The Observatory has bike racks, and the Greek Theatre notes Metro Bike Share stations on request stops after shows.
  • Walking up. The Observatory recommends the trails that start near the Greek Theatre or at Fern Dell. Public parking sits near both trailheads, and the Observatory says free parking near the Greek is about a mile's walk uphill from the building.
  • From the station to Barnsdall on foot. Hollyhock House's directions: walk north on Vermont Avenue toward Hollywood Boulevard, turn left onto Barnsdall Avenue and enter through the southeast gate.

Good to know

  • After a Greek Theatre show, DASH buses leave 10 minutes after the show ends and travel to the Vermont/Sunset B Line station. Other stops are by request. The theatre notes the last B Line train from Vermont/Sunset leaves at 11:55 p.m.
  • Griffith Park's inbound gates close at 10 p.m., though the park itself is open until 10:30 p.m.
  • Observatory parking is paid on weekdays from noon to 10 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., by credit card only.
  • Rideshare to the Greek uses Lot C at Vermont and Commonwealth.
